Step 2

To open an existing population sample, use the search function to search on basis of the:

  1. Extraction type (animal or holding);
  2. Population use (diseases or AIR);
  3. Population sample number or Name.

Open the selected population sample by clicking on it. Next, skip to Chapter 5.

To initiate a new population sample click ADD

CHAPTER 2 – Applying population filters

2.1 SPM.png
Step 1:

When Adding a new population first add the basic data and selection:

  1. Population use (diseases or AIR);
  2. Extraction type (animal or holding). Please note that if you select Animal sample, the list of questions will be extended;
  3. Name of the sample.

Step 2:

Not using filters

Filters you don’t want to use you can just leave blank.

EXCLUDE/INCLUDE filters.

For filters you would like to use you need to select if the filtration should be EXCLUDED from the sample or INCLUDED in the sample.

2.3 SPM.png
Step 3: Age filter

When the filter is set to INCLUDE and months are selected, it means that the sample will consist only of animals that belong in selected age range. E.g, from = 3, age to = 10 will generate all animals which are between 3 and 10 months old.

When the filter is set to EXCLUDE and a range is provided, all animals with the selected age range will be filtered out and the sample will consist of all the animals that do not belong in that age range.

2.4 SPM.png
Step 4: Gender Filter

Select the gender to INCLUDE only MALE or FEMALE animals, leaving it empty will provide both genders.

2.5n SPM.png
Step 5: Period of last health record

INCLUDING the health book record filter means that the sample will consist of all animals that vaccinated for a certain disease in the selected interval. E.g., if selected “vaccinated from = 3, vaccinated to = 10” (months), and anthrax; the sample will include all animals vaccinated for anthrax in the last 3 to 10 months.

EXCLUDING the population with a health book record for vaccination of a certain diseases, means that the sample will include all animals NOT VACCINATED for this disease in the selected interval. E.g. on EXCLUDE settings, if and interval selected “vaccinated from = 3, vaccinated to = 10” for anthrax, the sample will generate all other animals, except those vaccinated for anthrax in the last 3 to 10 months.

The VACCINE FOR DISEASE field isn’t mandatory and the population can be saved only with the INCLUDE or EXCLUDE filter activated and months range and the sample will include animals with all vaccination records in this period.

2.6n SPM.png
Step 6: Campaign Filter

The INCLUDE campaign filter means that the sample will consist of all animals with action under the selected campaign.

E.g. if Campaign ‘Test - Anthrax’ is selected the sample will have all animals listed under that campaign.

The EXCLUDE campaign filter means that the sample will consist of all that do not have actions under the selected campaign.

E.g. the EXCLUDE filter and selection of the campaign ‘Test - Anthrax’ will generate a sample of all the other animals, except the ones which have the campaign ‘Test – Anthrax’ applied to.

When a campaign is selected, the CAMPAIGN FOR DISEASE FIELD is automatically filled with the disease that is part of the campaign.

2.7n SPM.png
Step 7: Sample Filter

The INCLUDE sample filter means that the population sample will consist of all animals that have a positive or inconclusive sample for a certain disease in the specified interval.

E.g. selecting “positive/ suspected = 3, to = 10 months”, and selection of Anthrax, will generate a sample of only animals with have positive or inconclusive sample results for Anthrax in the last 3 to 10 months.

The EXCLUDE filter means that the sample will consist of animals that do not have a positive or inconclusive sample for a certain disease in the selected interval. E.g. entering “positive/ suspect from = 3, to = 10 months”, and selecting Anthrax, will generate a sample with all other animals, except the ones which have positive or inconclusive sample for the disease of type anthrax in the last 3 to 10 months.

CHAPTER 3 – Applying geographical filter

3.1 SPM.png
Step 1:

To add a geographical scope to the sample select Add geo-location button.

3.2 SPM.png
Step 2:

You can add any level of territorial administration by selecting the appropriate locations down to a village level.

3.3 SPM.png
Step 3:

You can check the added geo-location filters by selecting the Applied geo-location/s button.

Click on it to enter the selection.

3.4 SPM.png
Step 4:

You can edit or delete the added geo-location filters by selecting the Applied geo-location/s button.

3.5 SPM.png
Step 5:

When done generate the population, using the Generate Population sample button.

The system will generate the initial sample in excel automatically.

If no more changes are envisaged, please change the status of the population from Draft to Final, confirming the prompt that will appear.

CHAPTER 4 – Stratification of samples

4.1 SPM.png
Step 1:

For the finalized population, the Stratification options will become available.

Please select the button to design a filter with number of strata and size of the sample.

4.2 SPM.png
Step 2:

On basis of the Geo-location filter applied, the number of selected territorial administrations per level (strata) will be displayed.

Add the number of territorial administration units among which you would like the sample to be distributed.

Finally select the SAMPLE SIZE by adding the # of holdings or # of animals to be randomly selected and displayed on the list

Apply the stratification filter to exit the screen

4.3 SPM.png
Step 3

Select the Stratify population button to apply the stratification and sample size to the population.

The menu will let you choose one of the stratisfaction filters you have created.

4.4 SPM.png
Step 4

Select the stratification filter and confirm the selection.

The system will generate the stratified sample in Excel automatically.

CHAPTER 5 – Downloading the sample in Excel

5.1 SPM.png
Step 1

Select Download the latest sample file button to again obtain the population sample in Excel.

When clicking on this button you can still opt to download the unstratified and stratified version of the sample.

5.2 SPM.png
Step 2

Review the obtained excel file with the selected population.
